The main thrust of our program involves exposing our target age group (13-25) to our Personal Achievements for Success Standards (P.A.S.S.). Through an application process, we select a number of high risk youth that live in the most desperate circumstances. Young people that are presumed to have a slim chance of becoming productive members of society. We then offer them an opportunity to pursue a personal interest of their choosing in exchange for successful participation in all of our program activities. For example, if a participate is interested in playing basketball, we offer to enroll them in a basketball camp over the summer. Like this, we add value to their lives by giving them something to strive for as an alternative to seeking validation from the streets.
To qualify for their chosen incentive, each participant must fulfill our Personal Achievements for Success Standards (PASS) for an entire school year (or equivalent amount of time). Those standards include:
· no arrest
· maintain regular attendance at school
· no exclusions from school due to fighting
· register to vote (if 18 yrs of age)
· Completion of minimum required time in each of our program activities
After School Tutoring (30 hrs)
Each participant must log 30 hrs of after school tutoring to meet the PASS requirements. Our course will focus on history and a community curriculum that teaches how a functional community is developed. The goal is to provide participants with the information and etiquettes they need to join us in the effort of re-establishing our community.
Community Service (20hrs)
Each participant must log 20 hrs of community service to meet the PASS requirements. CDK will schedule various community service activities throughout the school year (or equivalent time) for participants to engage in. Our goal is encourage the youth to take ownership of their community. We want them to see improving the conditions where they live as their personal responsibility.
Health and Fitness (20 hrs)
Each participant must log 20 hrs of health and fitness training. CDK will provide personal training and life coaching for young people to help them develop healthy bodies and positive minds. Our goal is to inspire life long commitments from our participants to making healthy choices in their diets and lifestyles.
Each participant must engage each life experience outing offered by the CDK program in order to meet the PASS requirements. We will arrange for our participants to take tours of institutions that represent the paths their lives could potentially lead. Some of our outings include tours of a college campus and correctional facility, corporate environment in a high rise building and a rehab center for drug addicts, etc. Each experience representing the potential outcome of the choices they make.
Each participant must complete the entrepreneur training portion of the program in order to meet the PASS requirements. The Entrepreneur Training program is designed to teach participants the practical aspects of managing a business. Once complete, participants will have actually been involved in conducting a business and will have developed a functional understanding they can apply in the future.
